Your remote communicates to your Vizio TV using an infrared sensor. Any problem with the sensor can lead to the remote malfunctioning.

Make sure to clean your remote sensor once in a while as it is possible for dust particles to settle on the sensor and cause signal interferences.

Make sure to check for any sensor damage. You can easily check for damage using your mobile phone camera.

To check the status of your remote sensor:

  1. Open your phone’s camera application
  2. Hold the remote in such a way that its IR sensor faces the camera
  3. Now press any button on the remote. If you see a bright red flashing light on your camera screen then your remote IR sensor is fine
  4. If you don’t see any flashing red light when you press the buttons on the remote then your remote sensor is defective

If your remote IR sensor is defective, we suggest you replace the remote.

Remove Obstacles from the Path of the Vizio Remote and the TV

Your remote sends an infrared beam and your TV captures it using its infrared sensor. There needs to be a direct and clear communication path between the two for an adequate response.

Make sure that your Vizio TV’s IR sensor is not blocked by any obstacles. IR rays cannot penetrate through solid objects easily, resulting in connection issues.

Both the TV remote and the TV should be within range of each other for optimum and smooth connection.

Vizio TVs normally have their IR sensor on the bottom left or bottom right

If you prefer to leave the plastic wrap on your remote, that might cause a problem too. Dust particles can settle on the plastic wrap and cause connection problems.

Make sure to clean the IR sensor on your TV once in a while.

Switch the Source on the Vizio Remote

Most models of the Vizio TV come with a remote that can be used to control multiple components like a soundbar, DVD, and so on.

The remote typically has a component switch that allows you to select the device you want to control.

If you are on such models and your remote stopped working out of the blue, then it's possible that you accidentally set it to a different component other than your TV.

An accidental button press on the component switch located on the top and bottom of the remote can cause this to happen.

All you need to do in such a case is to set your remote back to your TV.Switching the source may also come to your rescue for setting the right source for getting back to cable on Vizio TV.

For changing the component:

It is worth noting that if your Vizio TV remote has a different design or feature set, this solution may not be applicable.

In such cases, you may need to refer to the user manual or contact Vizio customer support for further assistance.

The device will be reset to its factory settings and you will have to set up the device as new again.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, obstacles and interference may be the most plausible cause for issues with the Vizio remote.

Electronic gadgets that emit different signals can also cause interferences and cause your remote and TV to malfunction. Keep such gadgets away from your Vizio TV.

Also, check your remote for any liquid damage. If your buttons require a hard press to respond, then this might be the reason. Replace the remote in such cases.

If the issue still persists, then it is possible that your remote is defective. We suggest you order a replacement based on your Vizio TV model.

You can also contact Vizio customer care for further assistance. We are sure that they will be able to provide more technical support to help solve the issue.
